Nexium is anantibiotic, in accordance with thecriteria. Other therapeutic indications include the management of patients with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome andEscherichia coliinfection. Nexium is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to esomeprazole or any other proton pump inhibitor (PPI), and in those with a history of peptic ulcer disease. It is also contraindicated in patients taking antacids containing magnesium, calcium, aluminium, bismuth, or calcium. The efficacy of esomeprazole in the treatment of reflux esophagitis has not been established.
